What is it that you desire more: the thing for which you have prayed or to be in the presence of the One to whom you are

praying? If it is the first, then your waiting becomes a time of anxiety, frustration, and discouragement. If it is the latter, your strength is renewed, and you will be able to mount up on the wings of the eagle.

We must understand that the purpose of our praying has to extend far beyond our being fulfilled through the receiving of an

answer to our prayers. It is true that God wants us to have the desires of our heart, but sometimes we become fixated and

preoccupied with those desires. Thus, what becomes a priority is not our praying, but our receiving. And when we do not receive what we have prayed for, we begin to question God, wonder what we did wrong, and eventually see ourselves as being ostracized from God’s inner circle of blessings. I suspect

that sometimes God permits us to wait for the answer to our prayers in order to test our hearts. If your heart’s desire is to be

in relationship with God, then waiting becomes a time of joy and not of despair—because the longer the answer is delayed, the longer you linger in God’s courts, interceding for that desire and seeking God’s face.

Waiting on God is not a place of inactivity; instead, it is “getting busy” with God. “They that wait” are those who spend quality time seeking more of God. They are not stuck on whether or not they receive that for which they have prayed. Instead, the waiting becomes a time in which they learn to enjoy being in

God’s presence.

Our place of prayer is our waiting station. There we sink into the comfort of God’s bosom and allow ourselves to be covered

by God’s wings. We do not flee from God’s presence, but each day we run to it. And although we asked because we do want

what we have been praying for, somehow it is no longer an obsession for us. We find ourselves desiring more of God and

less of things. While you wait, spend quality time with God. Think and reflect

on God’s goodness and God’s attributes, allowing God’s glory to fill your prayer space. You will find that your strength will be renewed and your heart will be content. Do not stop waiting.
